The navigation mnemonic

This image shifts the metaphor from construction to navigation. Local vehicles follow different terrains and rules; a global orientation helps coordinate movement without turning a ship into a train. That is close to the foray’s concern with plural project representations.

It helps us remember

  • Local models can be heterogeneous rather than smaller copies of one master model.
  • Moving between scales requires explicit translations.
  • A global view can orient action while leaving local detail distributed.
  • Different routes may still share checkpoints, boundaries or commitments.

It does not establish

  • That every local path belongs to one coherent system.
  • Which disagreements matter and which can coexist.
  • That “global” means centralised, complete or objectively true.
  • That pictorial proximity is a valid interface relation.
